The Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace ) is a butterfly found in India that belongs to the Crows and Tigers, that is, the Danaid group of the Brush-footed butterfliesfamily. This butterfly shows gregarious migratory behaviour in southern India.This species migrates extensively during the Monsoons in southern India. The migratory populations have been observed to be nearly entirely consisting of males. It is also known to mud-puddle during migration.
Kerala state has high butterfly diversity and about 320 species of butterflies have been recorded. In Kerala many wildlife sanctuary are abounding with butterflies . Thattekkad Bird sanctuary , forests of Wayanad wildlife sanctuary, vazhachal-athirappalli reserve forests, Ponmudi reserve forests, peppara wildlife sanctuary, peechi-vazhani reserve forests , neyyar wildlife sanctuary , aralam wildlife sanctuary and silent valley national park attract rare and endemic butterfly species to Western Ghats.
