Total Lunar Eclipse on December 10 , 2011

Location: Valillapuzha , Areekode , Malappuram , Kerala , India

This year's last total lunar eclipse presented at Saturday. The eclipse began at 5.02 p.m. and ended at 11.02 p.m. , the total phase commenced at 7.36 p.m. and got over at 8.28 p.m. Lunar eclipse occurs when the earth, in course of its orbit aroud the sun, comes between the moon and the sun in such a way that the moon is hidden in the shadow cast by the earth. This can occur only when the sun , the earth and the moon are aligned in a straight line.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun's rays from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. The most recent total lunar eclipse occurred on December 10, 2011.
Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a certain relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions, as they are no brighter (indeed dimmer) than the full moon itself.
